Another trip down memory lane here as Tomato Records take over The Warehouse during one of their four visits to Cultural Vibes. I'm not sure how we all hooked up to start with, but it resulted in so much fun its was definitely mana from heaven. The Tomato Record label released some top notch house music in the early nineties and was ably led by their "Colonel" Tim Reeves & Brainiak Records founder Tim Fielding. The two Tim's were also members of a motley crew of reprobates called The Hi Ho posse led by Eric The Viking who would follow them on maneuvers wherever they went. These guys were seriously organised fiends, they partied professionally and would go on to destroy me on several occasions most notoriously on a debauched stag weekend for "Colonel" Reeves' upcoming wedding in Amsterdam. (almost hopitalised)
As fantastic as they all were personally the music on the Tomato nights was pretty damn special too, as their stable of DJ talent was quite formidable at the time. Phil Asher played every date & is still at the top of his game today, respected and booked worldwide for both his DJ'ing and his 1000's of production credits. Fellow London spinner A J also made every date and at the time was part of the legendary London outfit Renegade Soundwave. Ulsterman Noel Watson made up the triumvirate, he was then and still is a legend in House music circles. However the performer i am sure you will all remember most from the nights was the mercurial french percussionist known as Pascal's Bongo Massive. (you cannot hear him on this mix as he had a separate audio feed) Pascal became an instant favourite with everyone at Vibes and was great fun to watch on the stage as well as have around. He would later go on to record and tour with fellow Cultural Vibes favourite Dj Digit before tragically passing away while they were on tour together in Brasil in the late 90's. Tim Fielding would go onto yet more success later with the "Journey's By DJ" brand throughout the nineties. I haven't seen or heard from any of these guys for many years now and i hope they are all well and happy as they brought so much sunshine into my life back then. I still have all my letters, Hi Ho flyers and mad stag weekend reminders to make me smile, i just wished we had some photo's of their Vibes nights as they were such fun ! I have absolutely no idea who is playing on this tape but its any or all of the above. (Pascal can be heard playing on future mixes i promise)
Ladies & Gents, i proudly present............... Tomato Records live @ The Warehouse.

Originally Recorded on Jan 29, 1994

Duncan says: Report
I made a glass shelf for Tim Fielding 6 or so years back for his flat (Chelsea or Fulham or suchlike), a real arseache to make, but I discounted it heavily (150 quid or so) so I could get a cd of the long deleted infamous coldcut 70 minutes JDJ, which I had on casette but was nearing desturuction. Shelf done, cd recieved, smile on face until 2 weeks later when the series was rereleased and you could buy it from HMV for 12 quid. Happy days tho.   - 6 months ago
